A microscopist must have a working knowledge of the morphology, optical and chemical properties of materials that range from fragments of cocoa shell to zircon crystals.  One way to train towards this goal is to practice by working through a variety of known materials.  Over the years, Microtrace has built a reference collection that includes thousands of samples spanning caterogries that include: fiber, pigments, minerals, sand, dust, wood, pollen and industrial dusts.  These reference materials make up a key component of any class we offer.

We have assembled samples from two subsets of our collections, synthetic fibers and minerals, into commercial reference sets for sale to microscopists and the forensic community for training purposes.  Please follow the links below to read about these sets.
