Forensic Mineral Reference Collection

The Microtrace Forensic Mineral Collection is a set of 39 prepared microscope slides of mounted mineral grains for optical and morphological characterization.  The set is accompanied by a database containing various information about each mineral.

• the outline of a course by which to study the minerals
   

• the energy dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDS) of each mineral in the set
   

• a general description of each mineral, the environments in which it may be found and a mineral's optical properties
   

• the specific description of each mineral in the set including the origin and locality
   

• a variety of photomicrographs for various minerals taken with the scanning electron microscope, polarized light and cathodoluminescence to illustrate particular sample characteristics that provide additional forensic insight.
