Infrared Microspectrometer

The infrared microspectrometer uses an infrared source to probe absorptions in the mid-IR region of the electromagnetic spectrum.  Using apertures, the radiation is allowed to pass through a very specific region of a sample (as small as 10x10 micrometers).  The infra-red radiation interacts with the sample, allowing the microscopist to characterize the type of bonds present and in many cases, identify the substance being probed.  This technique is mainly used in the analysis of organic materials such as fibers, coatings and precipitate samples; however, micro-IR can also be used to study inorganic materials such as minerals, fillers and extenders.

Both hyperspectral and stage mapping can be done with this Perkin Elmer Spotlight system.

A Thermo Nicolet Continuum microscope and bench are also part of our instrumentation for extended range analyses and FTIR polarization studies.
